How to Trace Facebook Accounts? [2022]

Many of you are still asking me how to trace fake or dummy Facebook accounts. In this tutorial, I will tell you the step-by-step process of how to do it. But first, let us talk about the process we will be doing and other information you need to know to understand the process.

What is Banner Grabbing?

        According to Security Trails, banner grabbing is an act of getting software banner information manually or using OSINT tools that can do it for you automatically. 

        There are many OSINT tools that you can use to execute this process, like Telnet, Wget, cURL, and the famous Nmap. But in this tutorial, the meaning of banner grabbing is a process of coating unsuspicious links into shortened URLs that will get information from the target's device when triggered. The trigger for this process is when the target clicks the shortened URL we sent.

        In this process, we can get the IP Address, device name (or OS), and Internet Service Provider (ISP) of the device our target was using. We will also use 2 more tools to verify if the information we get using their IP Address is accurate.

What are the tools we will use?

        We will be using 3 websites for this tutorial: The Grabify IP Logger, IP Tracker Online, and IP Address Lookup. Links to these websites will be provided below.

  • Grabify IP Logger - It is a website that can find and track the device's IP Address. It is user-friendly and easy to use. This website will provide us with the information needed for this process, such as IP Addresses, device information, and Internet Service Providers (ISPs).

  • IP Tracker Online - It is a website that can provide information such as location, hostname, and Internet Service Provider (ISP) using the IP Address that we can get in Grabify IP Logger. We will use it as a verifier in this process. (***But sometimes, you can encounter errors with this website. So, I provided another verifier.***)
  • IP Address Lookup - It is an alternative website that can provide information that we needed like IP Tracker Online. It has a highly reliable IP Address Location Database to get detailed information on any IP Address. Both IP Tracker Online and IP Address Lookup are the same in terms of accuracy and reliability. So, there will be no problem using any of the two websites as a verifier.

Step-by-step Process

Step 1: Go to the Grabify IP Logger website.
Step 2: Enter the unsuspicious (or legit) link in the text field and click "Create URL". ***In my case, I used my Facebook timeline account***
Step 3: Click "I Agree & Create URL".
Step 4: In the dashboard, click "Change domain/Make a custom link".
Step 5: Then, click the dropdown button in the section and choose "profile". ***Because I used my Facebook profile to be the banner***
Step 6: Click "Close".
Step 7: Copy the "New URL".
Step 8: Go to Messenger and message your target to click the link that you will send. (See the example below)
Step 9: Wait for the target to click the link. Then, go to the Grabify IP Logger dashboard, and you can see in "Results" the bots that Facebook uses to check the link you sent if it is harmful or not. You can also see the information of the device of your target. You can click "More Info" to see the advanced log.
    In the Advanced Log, you can see all the essential information such as the IP Address, Device Name (or Operating System), Hostname, and Internet Service Provider (ISP).

Step 10: Copy the IP Address and go to the verifier that you want to use. In this tutorial, I will use the IP Address Lookup.

Step 11: In the IP Address Lookup, paste the "IP Address" in the text field and click "Track IP, Host, or Website".
Here, you can see information such as the location of the IP Address, latitude, longitude, and many more.
        That's it! We have already got the location of our target. It's so easy, and the website that you will use is very user-friendly.
