To the eyes of many people, hacking is an illegal way of getting access to unauthorized systems or computers. But little did they know hacking is much more something than they think it is. According to Anina Ot (2021), a freelance technology and internet security writer at MakeUseOf, hacking should always be on the mind of every internet user. It is not because they literally need to be a hacker, but because the internet nowadays is a dangerous place for everyone where hacking exist.
Hacking is a process of getting access to computer systems, devices, or networks, with or without permission from their owner. Since the very beginning, hacking has been considered illegal. If we try to find any news about hacking, we will always find information about the wrong side of hacking, where hackers illegally access a system, account, and many more. With all this news around the internet, we can’t find many information about how hacking, specifically ethical hacking, is so essential to an individual or company.
To find any vulnerabilities in the system, ethical hackers perform penetration testing. It is a process where the website or services are tested to find any flaws in the security. In the penetration testing process, ethical hackers were using different information security tools such as Nmap (Network Mapper), Metasploit, Nessus, and many more. These tools help ethical hackers to monitor, detect, and protect the systems.
According to PayScale, the average base salary of a certified ethical hacker in the Philippines is P786K/year, with an average base hourly rate of P350. This is much higher than the average base salary of an Information Security Analyst (with P600K/year) and a Security Analyst (with P770K/year). There is also some information that a professional with a certification has a much more salary than those who don’t. That’s why some of those who want to pursue becoming an ethical hacker want to take CEH (Certified Ethical Hacker) Certification. CEH certification can be challenging based on the statements of those who have taken it. But earning this certification can provide you benefits, such as high salaries, job security, and more (MyComputerCareer, n.d.).
